VEX Robotics Finnish Championships
Riihimäki City Robotics Campus and Roboedu registered association organise the seventh official VEX Robotics Finnish Championships from 1st to 3rd of Feb 2023 at Riihimäki, Finland.
The teams with the best results will be eligible to participate in the VEX Robotics World Championships, which will be held in Dallas, USA, in April 2023. The Finnish National Championships are open to all Finnish children and young people who are involved in robotics in the VEX learning environment.
In the VEX competitions, teams will work together
VEX is a learning environment for robotics. Pupils can design and build their own robots, so the competitions are not just about programming. The competition format guides students in collaboration. A team should develop a joint strategy with an alliance team, drawing on the strengths of robots from both teams.
During the competition, students will get feedback from the judges and can discuss with them the solutions and strategies they have created for the competition. The judges will also hand out a number of different awards for programming skills, innovative solutions in the robot product development process, documentation of the project, etc.
”In addition to providing an excellent opportunity to develop technological problem-solving skills, the competition will also help students to practice many skills that are important for their future, such as communication skills, creativity, information-seeking skills, critical thinking, identifying their own strengths, working towards a goal and language skills. Participating in the challenge is an excellent opportunity to apply what you have learned at school in a very versatile way,” says Reetta Viitanen, a Robotics Education Senior Adviser.
Riihimäki is a robotics city
The city of Riihimäki is the only municipality in Finland to offer early childhood education and curriculum-based robotics education from kindergarten to the end of upper secondary school. In the future, technologies such as robotics, the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence will be an integral part of our everyday lives.
Systematic robotics education will provide a solid knowledge base for the current and future technology needs of businesses and society. The Robotics Campus is a network of industry, Häme University of Applied Sciences, Hyria Education, the Finnish Environmental School Sykli, Riihimäen Tilat ja Kehitys Ltd and the City of Riihimäki. The Robotics Campus creates multidisciplinary expertise and brings together companies, students and further education students.
